Program Goals
• Introduce students to health care careers
• Facilitate connections between school and work
• Introduce participants to job obtainment skills such as applications and interviews
• Provide learning opportunities to health care careers of the students’ interests
• Create awareness of secondary education opportunities

Student Selection Criteria
• Students must have written permission from parent/guardian to participate.
• Successfully completed 7th grade/entering 8th grade in the fall.
• Complete the program application form.
• If application progresses to next level, complete an interview with project staff.
• Be willing and able to follow student requirements:
    – Mandatory attendance
    – Appropriate behavior while in the Medical Center
    – Neat and clean appearance
• Have interest in future career in the health care field.

Program Logistics
• All program sessions and activities will take place at Covenant Medical Center.
• A limited number of students will be selected to participate.

Student Incentives
• Ability to explore careers in health care.
• Opportunity to build job obtainment skills.
• Chance to learn about career and secondary education options.
• Free snacks.
• Fun.


COVENANT/SARTORI AUXILIARIES SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Annually, the Covenant/Sartori auxiliaries administer a scholarship program which is funded by the auxiliaries, the R. J. McElroy Trust and private donations.
 
Each financial award is based on an applicant’s scholarship and financial need. Qualified applicants are required to have a minimum 3.0 grade point average; be a resident of Black Hawk, Bremer, Fayette, Buchanan, Benton, Tama, Grundy or Butler counties in Iowa; be a graduating high school student intending to pursue a career in the healthcare field or be an area post-high-school student currently enrolled in a health-related program including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, dental hygiene, medical/clinical laboratory technician, radiology technology, dental assistant, medical transcription, health information technology, medical office services, surgical technology, ultrasound technology, pharmacy technology, respiratory therapy and physical therapy.

Application forms, which include a request for a brief essay, grade transcripts and letters of recommendation, will be available beginning December 11, 2006, from the Covenant Foundation Office, Covenant Medical Center, 3421 West Ninth Street, Waterloo, Tel. Earlier this month Sartori Memorial Hospital, The Midwest Institute of Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery™, and Dr. Matthew Glascock, Medical Director were named an American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. The ASMBS Center of Excellence designation recognizes surgical programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in Bariatric surgery.
