CT Scanner - Covenant Medical Center is offering breakthrough medical imaging that produces more detailed images of the human body than ever before. During an emergency, every second counts. Covenant is now equipped with a state-of-the-art light speed CT scanner that is so fast it can capture precise images of the heart between beats. Doctors can get the answer they need in a matter of seconds with the clear, detailed images it delivers. Sartori is also upgrading its CT services in January with a new high speed CT scanner and extended services hours.

Dexascan - Healthy bones are essential for each of us to maintain an independent and active lifestyle. Osteoporosis can rob bone mass, resulting in thin, brittle bones that are easily fractured. A key factor in the battle against osteoporosis is early detection. Covenant Medical Center and Sartori Memorial Hospital offer a Dexascan bone densitometer, the premier measurement of bone density. Examinations are comfortable, fast and safe. With this new highly sensitive densitometer, risks can be identified at a much earlier stage resulting in less bone loss.

Laboratory - Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare laboratory services are accredited by JCAHO.  We offer full service laboratories at the following sites:  Covenant Medical Center (Waterloo), Sartori Memorial Hospital (Cedar Falls), and Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters (Oelwein). These sites offer a large test menu in the areas of chemistry, hematology, microbiology and transfusion services.  Hours for each location are:

Covenant Medical Center:

Saturday - 8 a.m. - Noon
Closed on Sunday and Holidays

Sartori Memorial Hospital:

Mammography with ImageChecker - Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare’s nationally-accredited program uses the safest, most advanced x-ray equipment for detecting breast cancer in its early stages. New, state-of-the-art technology has been added for early detection of breast cancer using, the R2 Technology’s ImageChecker Computer Aided Detection (CAD) system. With the new CAD system, after the initial review, and additional analysis is performed with special attention given to ares of the breast surrounding tissues that might be questionable in nature. The CAD system acts as a "second opinion" and identifies areas that may have been missed by the human eye.

MRI - Designed with the patient in mind, our MRI is the shortest, most open, patient-friendly scanning environment available. Claustrophobia can be a problem for people needing to have a MRI performed. The new, state-of-the-art technology provides an extremely comfortable exam for patients and the best possible images for your doctor. The new MRI provides five times the power of traditional MRI systems to find abnormalities that could otherwise be missed while shortening procedure time dramatically for the patient. Covenant Medical Center has installed the Infinion™ 1.5T in a newly designed high technology suite within the radiology department. Sartori Memorial Hospital also offers a new upgraded MRI service that addresses claustrophobia and comfort through a mobile coach.

Positron Emission Technology (PET) Imaging System - This new state-of-the-art technology can detect abnormalities such as tumors which might go undetected by other imaging methods. PET produces pictures of metabolism (cell activity) which cannot be obtained with CT, MRI or conventional x-ray. To obtain PET images, glucose containing a minute amount of radioactive isotopes is injected into the patient’s arm. Glucose, a form of sugar found naturally in the body, accumulates in areas of rapid metabolism, such as tumors. With the information obtained from the PET imaging system, physicians can determine which treatment would be most appropriate for the patient.
