The American Cancer Society
Conveniently located within the Cancer Treatment Center, the American Cancer Society is the largest voluntary organization united to conquer cancer through balanced programs of research, education, patient service and rehabilitation. The American Cancer Society Information Center is open at the Covenant Cancer Treatment Center from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. A main objective of the Covenant Cancer Committee is to provide and promote cancer education and awareness to the general public. This includes educational presentations and outreach opportunities including free public screenings. Previous free community screenings have included skin, prostate and oral cavity. Vitality: For Women Only" is a medically based fitness class for breast cancer patients without post-treatment restrictions. Numerous studies have shown that exercise is an important part of recovery for breast cancer patients. Certified instructors are available to patients interested in the mind, body and spirit connection through wellness. Cancer patients and family members often need help dealing with the emotional aspects of the disease. Through facts, encouragement, and understanding, they quickly learn they are not alone in facing the challenge of living with cancer. A social worker, support groups and educational programs help the entire family cope with concerns and questions regarding cancer. Support groups include "Care and Share," and "I Can Cope." Comfort, support, and information are readily accessible to cancer patients and their families. Educational programs, resource information, and counseling services are conveniently provided within the Center to meet the individual’s total needs. |
